The Department of Biology offers specialized training in Medical and Allied Heath Sciences, Microbiology, Veterinary Bioscience, and Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology.
The department works in close collaboration with state and federal partners to expand research and training opportunities for students. The LUMCON marine laboratory in Cocodrie, Louisiana, USGS National Wetlands Research Center, and NOAA Estuarine Habitats and Coastal Fisheries Center in the UL Lafayette Research Park provide additional research opportunities.
Admission and Continuation
The College does not impose admission or continuation requirements beyond those prescribed by the University, although such additional requirements may be imposed by a particular department.
Department of Biology
Transfer or re-entry students entering as a Biology major who have attempted* at least 18 credit hours of BIOL courses must have:
- An overall GPA of 2.0 or higher
- A BIOL course GPA of 2.0 or higher
Transfer or re-entry students who have attempted* less than 18 credit hours of BIOL:
- no minimum GPA requirement
Continuation as a Biology Major
Students who have attempted* at least 18 credit hours of BIOL courses must have:
- A BIOL course GPA of 1.8 or higher
* Attempted credit hours include grades of W and transfer credits in all BIOL equivalent courses, with the exception of 100-200 level BIOL courses for non-biology majors.
