All minors require a minimum of 18 credit hours with at least 6 credit hours at the 300/400 level. All course prerequisites, corequisites and restrictions apply.

To be admitted to a College of Education certification minor program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a candidate must present evidence of having fulfilled each of the following requirements:

Major: Upper Division major in either the College of Liberal Arts or the College of Sciences with emphasis on critical-need teaching areas for secondary grades 6-12

GPA: Cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.5

Praxis Exam: Passing scores on all 3 sections of the Praxis Pre-Professional Skills Test: Reading, Writing, Math OR ACT composite of 22 or better (or SAT composite of 1030 or better)

EDCI 450G - Classroom Management and Instructional Design for Secondary Teachers 3 Credit(s).
EDFL 456 - Classroom Assessment 3 Credit(s).
IRED 320 - Technology in the Classroom 3 Credit(s).
PSYC 312 - Adolescent Psychology 3 Credit(s).
READ 410 - Teaching Content Literacy in the Secondary/Middle School 3 Credit(s).
SPED 391 - Foundations of Inclusive Education 3 Credit(s).
EDCI 400-Level - Secondary School Subject Area Methods 3 Credit(s).
EDCI 485 - Internship for Alternate Certification Candidates I 3 Credit(s). *
EDCI 487 - Internship for Alternate Certification Candidates II 3 Credit(s). *
* Passing scores on the Praxis II content exam(s) prior to graduation. The Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Praxis exam (0524) must be passed prior to enrolling in Student Teaching or an Internship.

Note: Student Teaching may be scheduled prior to graduation if within degree credit requirements. No final grade below “C” is accepted for any professional education or specialized academic education course required for certification. Any course substitutions must be approved by the Office of the Dean of Education.
