Course Requirements
For the Thesis Program, thirty (30) semester hours of graduate credit with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are required as follows: (1) a minimum of 12 credit hours of 500 and/or 400G level graduate courses in the Civil Engineering Department with 6 of these credit hours being two core department courses that will be identified for the student upon acceptance into the program. [Note that no more than 9 graduate credit hours may be courses below the 500 level.]; (2) 6 credit hours achieved by the successful passing of two college-level core graduate courses: ENGR 501 and MCHE 508 ; (3) a minimum of 3 credit hours of either civil engineering, mathematics, statistics, or the sciences, and (4) a minimum of 3 credit hours of additional graduate course work from either the Civil Engineering Department or another engineering department; and (5) a minimum of 6 credit hours of thesis work and a thesis approved by the graduate committee. Enrollment in CIVE 591 - Seminar is required for all full-time students when it is offered.
For the Non-Thesis Program, thirty-six (36) semester hours of graduate credit with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are required as follows: (1) a minimum of 18 credit hours of 500 and/or 400G level graduate courses in the Civil Engineering Department with 6 hours being two core department courses that will be identified for the student upon acceptance into the program. [Note that no more than 12 graduate hours may be below the 500 level.]; (2) 6 credit hours achieved by the successful passing of two college-level core graduate courses: ENGR 501 and MCHE 508 ; (3) a minimum of 3 credit hours of either civil engineering, mathematics, statistics, or the sciences; (4) a minimum of 6 credit hours of additional graduate courses from either the Civil Engineering Department or another engineering department; and (5) 3 hours taken via CIVE 594 Research that includes a special project and a project report to be presented to the graduate committee; (6) satisfactory performance on oral and written or oral/written exams as required by the graduate committee. Enrollment in CIVE 591 - Seminar is required for all full-time students when it is offered.
