Career Opportunities:
Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, forensic laboratories, hospitals, nursing and public health facilities, professional schools of medicine, dentistry, physical therapy and optometry
Degree Requirements:
• A grade of “C” or better is required in all MATH and BIOL courses applicable to the degree.
• A minimum of 45 hours of 300/400-level courses are required to meet graduation requirements.
Note(s):
1 Students not qualified for MATH 143  must take MATH 109  and MATH 110  before advancing to MATH 250 . Qualified students should take MATH 270  in lieu of MATH 250 .
2 Students must complete one of the following courses which place an emphasis on writing: BIOL 307 , BIOL 309 , BIOL 321 , BIOL 337 BIOL 345 , BIOL 360 , BIOL 370 , BIOL 407G , BIOL 409G , BIOL 412G , BIOL 424G , BIOL 435 BIOL 440G , BIOL 441G , BIOL 445G BIOL 471G , or BIOL 485G . This course can be used to satisfy other curriculum requirements, as appropriate.
   Students must complete one of the following courses that place an emphasis on quantitative training in Biology: BIOL 307 , BIOL 360 , BIOL 401G , BIOL 405G , BIOL 407G , BIOL 409G , BIOL 412G , BIOL 414G , BIOL 416G , BIOL 424G , BIOL 426G , BIOL 427G , BIOL 440G , BIOL 441G , BIOL 443G , BIOL 446G , or BIOL 458G . This course can be used to satisfy other curriculum requirements, as appropriate. Other courses, including advanced Math and Statistics courses, can be used to fulfill this requirement with the approval of the department head.
3 Students interested in taking upper level microbiology labs should take BIOL 263 .
4 Recommended electives for students interested in medical school, dental school, and allied health sciences programs.

Social/Behavioral Sciences (3 credit hours)


Choose from the General Education Curriculum  list of Social/Behavioral Science courses.

Students interested in medical school are encouraged to take a PSYC and SOCI course.

Biology (3 credit hours)


Must be approved by academic advisor.

Students must take a course with an emphasis on writing and a course with an emphasis on quantitative training in Biology. 2

General Elective (5 credit hours)


Students interested in medical school should consider taking CHEM 234 .

English Literature (3 credit hours)

BIOL (3 credit hours)


Students must take a course with an emphasis on writing and a course with an emphasis on quantitative training in Biology. 2

Any BIOL course for majors at the 300/400-level. Students interested in medical school should consider taking BIOL 337  and BIOL 455G .

Students must take a course with an emphasis on writing and a course with an emphasis on quantitative training in Biology. 2

Biology Physiology (4 credit hours)


Students must take a course with an emphasis on writing and a course with an emphasis on quantitative training in Biology. 2

Senior Year (31 credit hours)


General Elective (14 credit hours)


Must be approved by the student’s academic advisor. This elective may be at the 200-level.

Students interested in medical school are encouraged to take CHEM 417G .
