Program Description:
Every French major is unique. The French/Francophone concentration is designed to place students into the correct French course at the beginning of their studies to provide them with personal attention needed to thrive.

Students meet with their assigned Academic Advisor who is best suited to help choose the courses needed to stay on track. Many of the program’s French/Francophone majors study abroad, and this requires special considerations that must be made on a case-by-case basis. Therefore, the French/Francophone concentration does not have a single recommended path.

At the beginning of the first semester in French, students will take the Placement Exam to place them into the correct level of French. French Grammar courses following a strict sequence, and each course must be taken in order. The Placement Exam will place students into the correct course based on their level, and once the course is completed, students will receive credit for the previous courses in the sequence. Students will then take each of the remaining courses in order. The French grammar sequence in order is: Students completing FREN 202  in the Spring, should take FREN 361  in the Fall. Students completing FREN 202  in the Fall, should take FREN 316  in the Spring and then FREN 361  the following fall.

Students must complete two to three French courses depending on the results of their Placement Exam and in consultation with the academic advisor.
