The Intensive English Program is part of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is located on campus at 413 Brook Avenue, Lafayette, Louisiana. The mission of the program is to provide intensive English language instruction to adult non-native English speakers who have the goal of entering American universities or improving their ability to use English for professional purposes. Students at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of English proficiency may be accepted into the program to study English language and American culture. Students’ ages range from 18 to 50 plus and come from more than twelve countries. The IEP is an intensive English program that focuses on English for academic purposes. This program has six levels of instruction, and each level offers courses in grammar, writing, reading and listening/speaking. Students are in classes Monday through Friday, for a total of 20 hours per week. There are five 8-week sessions each year, beginning in August, October, January, March and June. Successful completion of level six and passing of the program exit exam allows the TOEFL to be waived for admission into University of Louisiana at Lafayette undergraduate programs. In addition to language instruction, we offer international student services, orientation, social and cultural activities and various field trips.
