Requirements for Admission


To be admitted to any non-master’s alternate certification program, a candidate must fulfill each of the following requirements:

Degree: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university

GPA: Cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.5

Praxis Exams: Passing scores on all sections of the Praxis Pre-Professional Skills Test Reading (=>176) Writing (=>175) Math (=>175) OR ACT Waiver - Composite 22 or higher; SAT - 1030 or higher
Passing scores on the Praxis content test appropriate for the area and/or level: Praxis II Content Focus Area: (Exam in Foreign Language focus area)

Resume List all work experiences upon completion of your undergraduate degree

Philosophy One-page essay outlining your reasons for and commitment to teaching

Please call the Office of Student Services at (337) 482-6681 to schedule an appointment to have your transcripts and Praxis scores evaluated. *EDCI 450  and READ 410  provide 80 hours of “Classroom Readiness” and must be completed prior to official acceptance into this program.

Course Requirements


Professional Education (27 hours + 6 credits of Internship or Student Teaching):

Student Teaching / Internship


Both the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Praxis exam (Exam 30524) and all course work listed above must be passed prior to enrolling in Student Teaching or a 2-semester Internship.

Note(s)


No final grade below “C” accepted for any professional education or specialized academic education course required for this certification. Any course substitutions must be approved by the Dean’s Office.
