Note(s): Students must earn at least an overall 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 2.5 cumulative GPA in all major courses.

Praxis Exam Requirements: Prior to student teaching, students must pass the Praxis core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics or submit an ACT composite score of 22 or higher. Students must also pass the Praxis Elementary Education: Content Knowledge (5018) or (effective 9/1/17) the Praxis Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (5001) - Reading/Language Arts (5002), Mathematics (5003), Social Studies (5004), and Science (5005), and the Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching: Early Childhood (5621).

Choose from the General Education Core  list of Literature courses.

Natural Sciences (3 Credits)


Choose from BIOL, CHEM, or GEOL. Students cannot receive credit for both GEOL 225  and GEOL 105 .

Six hours must be in a single biological (BIOL) or physical (CHEM, GEOL) science and three hours in the other natural science area not chosen. Science requirements may not be satisfied by three courses in the same department.

** These Block II classes must be taken together: EDCI 349 , EDCI 407 , READ 302 , READ 303 .
*** These Block III classes must be taken together: EDCI 411G , EDCI 350 , EDCI 351 , and EDCI 427 .

Students wishing to also be certified in Early Intervention will need to complete the following 5 courses with grades of “C” or better: SPED 405G , SPED 406G , SPED 414G , SPED 420G , and SPED 423G . These courses must be taken outside of the “blocked” classes to meet Louisiana State Department of Education Early Intervention certification requirements.
