Degree Awarded:         Total Credit Hours:
Graduate Certificate         18

The Graduate Certificate in Gifted Education is designed to provide a documented path of coursework and record of enrollment for current K-12 educators seeking the 18 semester hours of graduate-level courses in gifted education to meet the requirements for the Academically Gifted Add-On Endorsement (or certification) from the Louisiana Department of Education.

This graduate certificate program is intended to be an additional credential or enhancement, not a substitute for a graduate degree. Toward this end, the certificate may be pursued in conjunction with a graduate degree program in an area of education. All 18 hours of the program are transferable to the Special Education: Gifted, MEd degree provided students earn a grade of B or better in each course and are completed within the time limits required by the Graduate School.

Students completing the program will earn a graduate certificate that appears on their permanent transcript. To receive the Academically Gifted Add-On Endorsement (or certification), students must apply directly to the Louisiana Department of Education upon completion of the program.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general application and admission requirements of the Graduate School for a certificate program, admission to the Graduate Certificate in Gifted Education requires:

  • a valid teaching certificate
  • a Master’s degree or current enrollment in good academic standing in a graduate degree program in an area of education
