Career Opportunities: Careers in social and health programs such as early-child, geriatric, or mental health care; in various business domains such as management, marketing, or finance; and in various research capacities such as grant writing, data analysis, or laboratory assistance.  Advanced career opportunities requiring graduate work included positions such as licensed mental health service provider, researcher, university faculty member, or industrial/organizational consultant.

A degree in psychology requires a minimum of 36 earned credits in PSYC (including PSYC 209 , PSYC 210 PSYC 315 PSYC 400 , PSYC 435 , PSYC 455 , PSYC 330  or PSYC 340 , PSYC 321  or PSYC 425(G) , PSYC 415  or PSYC 442 , and 9 credit hours of PSYC electives, excluding PSYC 110  and PSYC 313 ).  Note that PSYC 110  or PSYC 313  taken as a psychology major while at UL Lafayette will NOT be applicable to a degree in psychology.  A maximum of 42 hours of PSYC courses may be applied toward degree requirements.  Additionally, a degree in psychology requires a College of Liberal Arts-approved minor that includes at least 18 credits with at least 6 credits at the 300-400 level. In addition, the following general educational requirements must be met: UNIV 100  (3 credits); ENGL 101  and ENGL102 (3 credits); ENGL literature (3 credits), ENGL 359  (3 credits), Modern Language (10 credits of FREN, SPAN, GERM, or LATN 101, 102, & 201); BIOL 121 , BIOL 122 , and BIOL 123  (7 credits); Science elective (3 credits of CHEM, PHYS, or GEOL; MATH 103 / or MATH 105  (only 3 credits applicable); STAT 214  (3 credits with a C or better); HIST elective (6 credits); PHIL (3 credits in PHIL 202 , PHIL 340 , PHIL 342 ); Arts elective (3 credits in VIAR, THEA, MUS, AMUS, or DANC); Behavioral Science elective (6 credits in ANTH, CJUS, ECON, GEOG, POLI, or SOCI with at least 3 hours at the 200+ level), and Humanities elective (3 credits chosen from ENGL, MODL, HIST, PHIL, HUMN, or CMCN courses not previously applied to general educational requirements).  Additionally, 4 credits of academic advisor-approved elective(s) must be completed to fulfill the 120-hour curriculum requirement.  Note:  1) all PSYC courses must be passed with a C or better; 2) only 1 D is allowed in the minor; 3) all pre-requisites and co-requisites must be met (see course descriptions); 4) 45 hours must be completed at the 300-400 level; & 5) all substitutions must be approved by the PSYC Department Head.
